Leeds Beckett Students' Union
About this venue
Leeds Beckett Students' Union, LBSU, has a standing gig venue on the corner of Woodhouse Lane and Portland Way in Leeds city centre. It isn't at the Headingley campus, and it isn't connected to Stylus, Leeds University Union's venue. Look for the purple window by the steps, round the corner from the Rob Burrow memorial wall. The union has put on gigs for more than 50 years. Talking Heads, Soft Cell, the Sex Pistols, Nirvana, the Kaiser Chiefs, Wet Leg and Noah Kahan have all played here.
It puts on gigs of all genres, and now and then all-day festivals across several venues. Under 14s must come with an adult, and some shows have a higher age limit. The venue is cashless, the bar sells snacks and gives out free tap water and ear plugs, and most shows use strobe lighting and smoke.
The accessible entrance is up a ramp at the front of the building on Woodhouse Lane, and there's a lift. The accessible toilet is on the bar level and uses a RADAR key, which bar or security staff can give you. The accessible viewing area is a raised platform at the side of the room with a full view of the stage. A free carer or companion ticket can be booked in advance, and you don't need a blue badge or other proof of disability to book. Assistance dogs are welcome, though it helps to tell the venue beforehand.
Leeds station is less than a mile away, and plenty of city centre buses stop nearby. There's a pay and display car park at the Rose Bowl across the road, with blue badge spaces in its open-air section, and there are bike racks outside.
