O2 Academy Leeds
About this venue
O2 Academy Leeds is in a listed building on Cookridge Street that opened as the Coliseum on 15 July 1885. It was first a concert hall and then a theatre, and over the years it held variety shows, political meetings, religious gatherings and even a circus. It then became a cinema, and later a bingo hall and social club. In 1992 it became the Town and Country Club, where Blur, Primal Scream, Suede and The Stone Roses all played. From 2001 to 2004 it was the Creation nightclub, and it reopened in 2008 with a sold-out Kaiser Chiefs show.
It puts on live shows and club nights, and has had DJs such as Fatboy Slim and Deadmau5. The stalls downstairs are all standing, with no raised platform, and the balcony has both standing and seated tickets. Most shows are 8+, under 14s must be with an adult and watch from the balcony, and each show's age limit is on its event page. The bars don't take cash.
The stalls have level access, with priority entry through the accessible entrance. The balcony is up 43 stairs or a lift and has space for four wheelchair users. The venue gives one free companion ticket and can book a BSL interpreter with a month's notice. One of the bars in the stalls has a lowered counter.
Leeds station is under 900 metres away and the bus station about a kilometre, and the 33 and 757 buses stop nearby. The venue has no parking of its own. There's a 24 hour car park on Woodhouse Lane and the Rose Bowl car park just behind the venue on Portland Crescent. There are two blue badge bays right outside.
